Obama plans to extend gun background checks to Social Security. The administration will use the same strategy they use to confiscate guns from veterans who have others handle their financial affairs only this will affect a massive 4.2 million Americans. An inability to balance a checkbook could get them banned from owning a gun.]

This is the single most massive gun grab by this administration. If you are elderly, a veteran or disabled, you might have your gun taken away because of Obama’s big brush approach to gun control.

About 4.2 million adults receive monthly benefits that are managed by “representative payees” and they would all be subject to gun confiscation.

Gun rights activists, mental health experts, advocates for the disabled and others are critical of the plan, according to the LA Times.

Handling one’s financial affairs does not correlate to irresponsible gun ownership.

Fox San Francisco transcript, Jul 6, 2015 (emphasis added): Several dead sea mammals found along Ocean Beach — In San Francisco, an unusual and sad sight at Ocean Beach today. That’s where several dead marine mammals washed ashore… This part of a troubling trend… Back in May, 3 dead whales washed up along San Francisco beaches… Joey DeRuy: “I took photos of it because it was so unusual“… But that wasn’t the end of his unusual beach sightings. DeRuy: “I kept walking and I kept running into more.” He said he spotted a small dead seal, then a much larger mammal that appeared to be an elephant seal. Several people walking by couldn’t help but stop and wonder what is behind the deaths… DeRuy: “It’s very disturbing, because I’ve never seen so many animals.”

SFist, Jul 6, 2015: Multiple Marine Mammals Found Dead Along Ocean Beach Monday — At least two dead sea lions, including one large adult, and one large dolphin, washed ashore today along Ocean Beach and there may be more to come… It’s unclear just yet if this could part of a larger beaching, or part of a recent pattern… more beachings due to starvation are expected… Today’s beachings follow multiple cases of dead whales appearing on our coast over the last couple of months.

Paul Saraceni, Ocean Beach, SF seawatch, Jul 5, 2015: Sad and disconcerting to see were 2 dead cetaceans floating out beyond the breakers. One appeared to be a Bottlenose Dolphin… The other appeared to be a relatively small whale, black in color — perhaps a young Humpback… During a walk on Ocean Beach S of Noriega yesterday, washed up in the wrack line on the beach were deceased Sooty Shearwater and sea lion pup.

Baja Times, Jul 1, 2015: In the last couple of weeks, three dead whales have been found [10-20 miles from San Diego]. Authorities said that the cause of the death might be water pollution…

Asahi Shimbun, Jun 17, 2015 (emphasis added):EDITORIAL: No more half-baked plans for decommissioning Fukushima reactors.
The government [and TEPCO] announced… removal of spent nuclear fuel from storage pools… will be delayed by up to three years… due to their new policy of “risk reduction over speed.” This delay, right from the start, must mean that the old road map was poorly planned. Are [they] really able to now foretell that the delay will be three years at most? And why was risk reduction not their top priority until now?… In autumn 2013, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared… the situation was “under control.”… it has become abundantly clear that the situation is anything but under control, and that the previous decommissioning road map failed to accurately assess the high level and extensive spread of radiation contamination. Removing debris releases radioactive substances into the atmosphere…

Mainichi Daily News, Jun 15, 2015: The delay is due to unexpected difficulties preventing the escape of airborne radioactive contaminants during decontamination and wreckage clearing work. ENENews, ALERT: Multiple Alarms Set Off at Fukushima Plant: New leak of highly radioactive material detected — “Strontium-90 levels spike alarmingly”

AFP, Feb 22, 2015 (emphasis added): Sensors at the Fukushima nuclear plant have detected a fresh leak of highly radioactive water into the sea… [with] contamination levels up to 70 times greater than the already-high radioactive status seen at the plant… TEPCO said its emergency inspections of tanks storing nuclear waste water did not find any additional abnormalities… It was not immediately clear what caused the original spike… “With emergency surveys of the plant and monitoring of other sensors, we have no reason to believe tanks storing radioactive waste water have leaked… We are currently monitoring the sensors”… The latest incident, one of several that have plagued the plant in recent months, reflects the difficulty in controlling and decommissioning the plant… TEPCO has not been able to effectively deal with an increasing amount of contaminated water…

NHK, Feb 22, 2015: Fukushima radioactive contamination sets off alarm — [TEPCO] says it has detected high levels of radioactive substances in a drainage channel on the plant’s premises on Sunday… the plant’s alarm system went off around 10 AM… levels of beta-ray emitting substances, which are not detected under normal circumstances, had risen to up to 7,230 Becquerels per liter… The utility suspects that contaminated water in the channel may have leaked into the port.

Japan Times, Feb 22, 2015: Strontium-90 levels spike alarmingly at Fukushima No. 1 plant — The Nuclear Regulation Authority said Sunday that an alarm went off at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant signaling high radioactivity levels in drainage ditches… the first alarm sounded at around 10 a.m., and another alarm 10 minutes later indicated much higher levels. Officials said contaminated water may have been discharged into the ditches.

Description:
A beach in South Africa has been covered in black mussels in a strange phenomenon that has locals scratching their heads. The Herald Live reports that residents near Robberg Beach have been warned not to eat the mussels. Some people have blamed the incident on a red tide, a toxic alagal bloom that threatens marine life. However, Nature’s Valley Trust programme director Dr Mark Brown disputes this. “A similar event happened in November last year in the same spot,” he told the Herald. “Essentially large swells and currents break beds of mussels off the reef and they wash up. It does not appear to be linked to red tide or anything sinister at this stage.” An ecologist from SA National Parks said heavy swells and sand movement may have been a contributing factor. “Most of the mussels were still alive when they washed up, which lowers the possibility that it is related to some form of toxin from either a red algal bloom or other source,” Kyle Brown told the Herald. “As a precautionary measure, I would advise the public not to eat them.”

School officials said that as of Thursday night, 74 students had been treated on campus and at the Emory University Hospital emergency department. Michael Huey, assistant vice president and executive director of Emory University Student Health and Counseling Services, sent an email to students Thursday night addressing what he described as gastrointestinal illnesses. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Emory is working with infectious diseases experts and the DeKalb County Board of Health to determine the cause. Huey said health officials have inspected the dining facilities on the Emory campus just outside Atlanta and found no health infractions or issues of concern. Left-over food was also being analyzed as officials searched for a cause.
